Sunday, July 20 / 9:30am / Reception Hall
All are invited to attend our “One Sunday School” class on July 20th at 9:30am in the Reception Hall. Our Guest Speaker will be Rev. Dr. Thomas Elliott, Jr., Professor in the Practice of Theology and Methodist Studies at Candler School of Theology.
John Wesley was an itinerant preacher. In his lifetime is estimated that he preached over 40,000 sermons while traveling over 250,000 miles. Through preaching, he shared the gospel of God’s free grace and love, grew in his own faith and scope of ministry, and connected many people to a vital movement of spirituality that eventually spanned the Atlantic.
Many studies in Methodism have explored John Wesley’s preaching ministry through his published sermons as sources of theology and spiritual formation. Few have investigated his listeners, those who actually heard him preach and wrote about their experiences of faith in spiritual autobiographies.
In this class, we will hear from his listeners and how they responded to his message, and consider what we can learn from them about our own spiritual lives.
Note: there will be no other Adult Sunday School Class this day.
