What We Believe

Gainesville First United Methodist Church is a church that is built and grounded on the life, death and resurrection of Jesus. In Jesus, we can know and experience God’s unconditional love. By believing in Jesus, we are made right with God – not because of anything we do or say, but because of what God has done for us in the cross of Jesus. On the cross, Jesus took on himself our sins and by believing in Jesus we are forgiven and restored in right relationship with God.

“For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life.“ Indeed, God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.”
— John 3:16-17
“If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.”
— Romans 10:9-10
“For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God - not the result of works, so that no one may boast.”
— Ephesians 2:8-9

As those who follow Jesus, we commit to a life-long journey of transformation to be more like Jesus in the ways we live and love. The change does not end with us – God calls us to be transforming agents in the world as well.

GFUMC does not stand alone, we are a Connectional Church. This simply means that we are part of a far larger body of believers in Jesus Christ called United Methodists. The United Methodist Church is committed to sharing the Good News of Jesus to other and to engage in ministry through the power of the Holy Spirit to bring hope, light, love and transformation to all the world.
