Disaster Response
Hurricane Katrina Recovery Efforts of GFUMC

Thanks for your interest in Mississippi’s continued recovery from hurricane Katrina. As you probably know, the impact on the Mississippi coastal areas, as well as some areas north of the coast was devastating. In the lower six counties alone nearly 60,000 homes were destroyed, leaving tens of thousands homeless. At this time, despite the tremendous efforts of volunteers from around the country, nearly 100,000 Mississippians continue to live in temporary housing, hoping to one day return to homes. The United Methodist Church and UMCOR have organized to help volunteers like our church teams help heal hearts and fix homes.

Disaster Relief Teams are planning trips for March & April 2008 to Gulfport, Mississippi. Please keep checking for further updates as plans are made.
