Older Adult Ministry
Gainesville First allows people of all ages the opportunity to express their faith in an atmosphere of love and acceptance. Older adults in our congregation are encouraged to serve in various areas of ministry: as members of the Church Council, as members the Choir, as Sunday School teachers, ushers or greeters. We believe every member is gifted to serve in some area of ministry.
GFUMC offers several program for older adults:
The Adventurers is a group of adults who are interested in good fellowship and challenging programs such as a series of in-depth Bible studies, lectures, and various short-term programs. Scheduled dates to be announced.
Fifty Plus: Adults over 50 meet on the fourth Monday of each month at 6 p.m. for a covered dish dinner and a program in the Reception Hall. Bring a covered dish, a friend, $1.00, and join us for fun and fellowship!
Gadabouts: This group of active older adults meets each Wednesday for a program at 11 a.m. and lunch at 12 p.m. The cost of lunch is $3.00/person. Reservations are not necessary. We have a special celebration for birthdays and all major holidays. This is a great opportunity to hear interesting speakers and fellowship with others.
GFUMC Travelers: Many adults enjoy traveling together as a group. Several day, overnight, and extended trips are planned each year. GFUMC Travelers have enjoyed trips to Callaway Gardens, Pigeon Forge, Bob Jones University, Eagle Ranch, and Simpsonwood Conference Center over the years.
Visitors are welcome at any of the Older Adult activities. You do not have to be a member of Gainesville First to attend. Please contact Rev. Tom Jones, Pastor of Congregational Care and Older Adults, at 770.536.2341 for more information about this ministry.
